You presented a good case for investing those 24 minutes!

        I did! I watched. I assessed. I need to exercise again. 🙂

Dr. Amen’s presentation was very interesting, and the assessment was very simple!

Loved the article on our brains importance to life.. Having got my life in a mega-stress mode, I had a stroke. Woke up three weeks later unable to speak or tell my name. I was terrified. Being a Christian I could talk to God so I spoke, HELP through my spirit to Him. I have no idea what was given to me medically but I continued giving all I could,HELP. I did get that help from a voice within me saying, “You have the mind of Christ”

I had therapy after being releases from the hospital .

My therapist noticed I had a computer in my room and asked if it was mine. I nodded yes. He told me to “get on it and talk. You still have everything in your mind yet, but now you have to rechanel it to speak what it knos.”

At that point I didnt even remember how to start the machine i had spent hours on, but played around till I got it. I tried to type my name. It shot back in red “spell check” in response . This began a serious of learning to read and write again. We talked to each other for months with its words never changing, always the same “spell check”, but mine were improving.

My speech slowly came back as well which surprised all those working with me but the message of what I did have was the mind of Christ. Not one that could never be healed, one that forgot all I knew, one that only guessed at what I said was right and understandable. I believed I had the mind of Christ and began talking.

I got able to witness to a rehabilitation class to others who had strokes. When I would say, never give up, I meant it by living it. Some got encouraged enough to start trying. Maybe God gave me this side trip to help and encourage others.

Thanks to spell check I improved enough that some who came to visit me didnt know I had a stroke. I was to undergo another major surgery within a week when I had the second stroke. Having been there, done that, I started in immediately speaking to the mountain that was trying so steal my joy. If the Doctors had a knowledge of that, I could not have got this surgery that was imparritive to me. Within that week of spending the time with the Lord by speaking all the promises He says are ours if we believe, I had that surgery.

I learned how awesome our brain is, the perfect peace we find in the Creators masterpiece. When I hear some say we came into life through some happenstance, I hope you will give God a chance to show you the biggest miracle of all. Healing, and I will get to live with Him eternally when I pass from this world. He wants you there too, just ask Him to help you.

      Hi Bette,
Thank you for sharing your journey of recovery after having a stroke, and then going through it all over again after a second stroke. I cannot even begin to imagine how frightening that would be. Good for you for NOT GIVING UP. You are an inspiring example of what it means to Be Unstoppable! I admire you greatly and am so grateful you joined the Be Unstoppable community. I’m voting you in as an honorary valedictorian — I don’t care if your spelling didn’t come back 100%. Your heart and spirit certainly did, and that’s what really matters!

Dr. Amen and his books, including Change Your Brain, Change Your Life, have been enormously helpful to me personally, and professionally as a physical therapist.
